Continuing with our lead up to Oscar night, in house stylist Ashley Barlow created some looks pulling from our current auctions site. All looks are inspired by under the radar nominees this year. If we can’t see these films win the prestigious Academy Award, we can at least give them some love on The Closet.

I’m a sucker for polka dots. I’d hike up this Vintage Ungaro dress and cinch the waist with either an electric blue or emerald green belt paired with sleek booties, or towering platforms. The long sleeves are elegant enough so I wouldn’t be afraid to show as much leg action as possible. These Ferragamo boots are spot on as well. The wrap buckle around ankle and height is what draws me in. I can envision them with pretty much every outfit possible.

Trend she’s loving this season…

Sneakers with….everything. Because I already wear them….with everything. Chanel and New Balance? WHY NOT?! Of course with every street trend there’s obligatory options for the fancier folk i.e. Marant, Lanvin, Margiela, etc…but I’m not mad. When you’re 5’10 and go out in Brooklyn sometimes all you want is comfort.

Beauty product I can’t get enough of right now…

I believe beauty starts from the inside. Everyday I take a double shot of Herbal Aloe Force, which is Aloe Vera juice with added detoxing herbs, alongside with Pure Synergy green powder, which is basically the Rolls Royce of superfoods. Oh, and Bikram. It’s not a product but if you stick to it, your body will be bangin’ and your skin will glow harder than Kanye West’s tour.

Once again second place for best dressed was a tie. Best dressed runner-ups: Rose Byrne in Elie Saab and Emma Stone in Alexander McQueen Pre-Fall 2012.

And our best dressed pick at the 2012 SAG awards goes to…Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Spring 2012 Couture.

This dress was shown for the first time ever at Paris couture week…only 6 days ago. So you know you’ve made it when you can have haute couture flown across the country for you to wear at a red carpet event in just under a week. Good thing she did…because it definitely paid off! We were sick of seeing colorless dresses on the red carpet but Zoe made colorless work. The detail is extraordinary and she looks flawless.

Unfortunately, it’s never all praises on the red carpet. So we had to give worst dressed to someone…and it was pretty clear that Heather Morris in Masai Payan was the winner in this category.

We can’t even pick out one good thing about this look. The dress isn’t flattering, the accessories are all wrong…and even the hair and makeup look terrible. Really hoping she steps it up for the next big red carpet event!

The Chinese New Year celebration kicked off January 23, and we say goodbye to the rabbit and hello to the only mythical creature in the Chinese zodiac, the dragon.  People born under this sign are generally innovative, brave, passionate, and quick tempered. Many believe a dragon year boast the most luck than any other sign. Defeating Nian: According to old Chinese folklore, the origin of Chinese New Year began with a battle against the mythical beast Nian. Each year he would visit the villages and eat all of the livestock, crops, and even people. To hopefully diminish his appetite for children, the villagers started putting food on their doorsteps. One day they saw Nian run away from a child wearing all red and discovered he was fearful of this color. To keep away the demons this year, we put together this monochromatic look including…

Step 1: Overall construction and quality

• Check the leather–it should be of high quality. For this specific bag, it should feel soft but not flimsy.
• The lining should be a nice textile (almost cloth-like). It should feel substantial and not too thin.

Step 2: Stitching

• Be sure all stitching lines up across the bag (including pockets, flaps etc).
• Check for even and symmetrical stitching.
• Stitches should be in tact. Loose threads can mean poor craftsmanship.

Step 3: Hardware

• For the most part Chanel uses either Lampo or Eclair zippers.
• Some vintage bags have Chanel stamped zippers.
• In this case, both zippers are Lampo.

Step 4: Hologram Sticker

• A hologram sticker should be present on all recent bags. Chanel started using these in the mid 1980′s.
• The sticker is either adhered onto the lining or onto a tag in the lining.
• In modern Chanel bags, the hologram sticker features 2 Chanel monogram logos encased in a circle.
• Modern hologram stickers have an ‘X’ imprint going through the sticker.

Ann Demeulemeester’s Spring 2012 Ready-To-Wear collection speaks to a woman longing for the ease of menswear without forfeiting elegance and femininity. The look of androgyny so hard to perfect but it’s done so well in this collection of free flowing silhouettes.  The runway show is like flipping through a black and white photo album…it’s amazing!

Sash-ay:  We love the tailored, regal inspired cut of this Chanel Boutique Navy Wool Asymmetric Hem Jacket. An easy way to add drama (and again, WARMTH) is by draping the stole across the front and tying it to the side.

In-vest-ed: This version of wearing a stole is probably the most traditional and accessible, but nevertheless timeless. Cross the stole across the front of your body and tie in the back to create a stunning vest. Paired with a t-shirt or a leather jacket, this look is an easy fashion slump fix.
